Pre-Professional and Cooperative Programs
The pre-professional and cooperative programs are coordinated by the College of Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering Technology (CSMET), through the Department of Biological and Physical Sciences. A faculty advisor is assigned for each program. Students interested in pursuing any of these programs should contact the Department of Biological and Physical Sciences for more information.
Program Offerings
Pre-professional and/or cooperative programs are offered in the following areas: Medicine (see below), Dentistry , Veterinary Medicine , Optometry , and Agriculture.
Pre-Professional Program Requirements
Students who are planning to enter medical school should consult the premedical advisor and secure a statement of the requirements fro admission. The standard medical college requires a Bachelor of Science degree for admission: However, a few medical colleges continue to admit students who have completed a minimum of ninety semester hours of college work in specific fields. It should be noted, however, that in recent years a large percentage of the freshman medical classes is composed of students holding a bachelor's degree.

It is the policy of South Carolina State University to require those students who plan to study medicine to complete a regular four-year curriculum with a Bachelor of Science degree.
In order to meet the above minimum requirements, the following courses are recommended:

South Carolina State University is on the approval list of the American Medical Association.
The Medical College Admission Test is required of every applicant for admission to a medical college, and a satisfactory score must be made before his application can be considered.
